Easter 2021

Easter was a bit of a chilled affair this year - not so much the weather, it has been really sunny and warm - I even got all the lawns mowed, but the intense rushing around that I usually associate with Easter didn't seem to be there this year. I had an afternoon off to go and watch my sons School Easter hat parade so that was pretty cool. He wore a hat that we originally made for my daughter at the same school - that hat has made it through 3 kids now so I think wife did well in the construction! Town was super busy with the races but I think I managed to dodge the crowds pretty well this year - the supermarket was prepared with extra checkouts open so I managed to get in and out of town before the crowds decended on the shops. The in-laws visited for a few days and will be back later this week to take the kids for some R&R back on the farm, Easter lunch was with my family (the roast lamb was delicious) although sadly my little sis and her family couldn't make it due to the lengthy trip and the possibility of snap changes in lockdown laws for Qld. If you were to travel, you wouldn't know if you could get back home so they stayed put. Good to see big sis and nephew though - even though they live in town, it feels as though we hardly see each other. But I would have to say we see them more than when they lived interstate!

In other news, my bursitis has started to go down so now I have a semi-normal looking elbow again. Not sure whether it will stand up to a long motorbike ride with the leather jacket on, but my daughter has been asking every other day if we can go for another ride on the bike. We did a lap of the racetrack the other week (at the signposted 60km/h speed limit) and I think she may be turning into a bit of a speedfreak. I will have to start looking to invest in some proper riding gear for her but I don't know that there are many stores that would carry her size. Problem is that you need to try stuff on so I think we may have to make a trip down to Sydney rather than buy anything online.

We are also looking to set up a garage sale over the weekend to get rid of all the baby stuff we have in the house. It's crazy how much stuff you accumulate over 3 kids - porta-cots, toys, baby blankets, prams, strollers, clothes, etc. Hopefully we can get rid of most of it, make a bit of money and clear out some space in the garage while we are at it. One thing I did find while I was in the garage is my old GameBoy and games. While I needed to find a new charger, I got it up and running and was showing my kids:

Me - "This is what we played video games on before iPads".
Son (7) after getting bored playing the first game - "How do you change games?".
Me - "You have to change the game cartridge - each cartridge is a different app".
Son (7) *makes noises of disgust* "That's too hard".

I think the novelty wore off pretty quickly for them (although Mortal Kombat II seemed to hold son's interest for a little while and daughter got a little too attached to casino games) but I'm still loving the nostalgia factor. Might look online for a few more games.
