What to talk about.

I really struggle with what to write about sometimes. I want to share what is happening but how much information is too much information?

With regards to personal stories, I want to write about what is happening with various family members and how it affects me but at the same time, they may not want that information known, would be embarrassed or unhappy with me for writing it down? In that regard I always lean on the side of restraint, but that of course means that nothing gets written - I overthink and in the end it all gets too hard. How does this help anyone?!

Same with stuff that happens at work – I would like to talk about whats happening but that involves talking about the actions of others, and they may not want that recorded. Especially in a work environment – you are getting paid to do a job and what you write could jeopardise your employment. How do you talk about actions and events without stepping over that line?

In the social age we live in and the potential for anything on the web to be shared and go ‘viral’, its a fine line with a lot of grey area to get lost in. I’m not sure I have the answers, I think just writing stuff down to begin with is what I need to start doing… Don’t publish, just write a draft, but before you post anything just re-read, review and ask yourself whether it will negatively impact on someone or whether it could be used to hurt someone? If so, you can always leave it as a draft, change it or delete it.
