Now

Something I have seen on a few other personal sites is the concept of a 'now' page. What am I doing at the moment? Books I'm reading, movies (cinema) that I have seen or series I'm watching, games I'm playing, etc. Since I usually post something every month or so, I am committing to updating this list on a monthly basis as it is likely to change and become out of date.

Here is my list for January 2026:

  • Book:
I am currently reading Empress of Forever by Max Gladstone. I'm about halfway through and enjoying it so far
  • Audiobook:
I have been listening to Desperate Measures by Craig Alanson. My car won't play audio through my phone anymore (sees it as a phone only and not a BT audio device?) so its been slow going but I have just bought a USB to 3.5mm audio jack adapter so I'm hoping I can get it to work this way instead of via Bluetooth. I'm a few chapters in thanks to some recent trips and I'm enjoying it so far but it seems a bit lighter on action than the previous books.
  • Movie:
Usually watch a number of movies over the Christmas/New Years break but I won't list them all - I managed to get my wife to watch Dark City but other than that, nothing special is really jumping out for me but of course there was the Die Hard series, Love Actually, and a few other Christmas related flicks.
  • Series:
We have been watching the second season of Landman with Billy Bob Thornton. And of course we are big 'Stranger Things' fans so my wife, eldest daughter and I have been hanging out for the final episodes to be released. While my daughter wanted to watch the episodes during Dec, I said that it was better to wait until they have all been released so we can binge it. Up to the last episode - can't wait!
  • Games:
The boys asked to play on my computer the other day and they fired up Rocket League. I have been on a bit of a Rocket League bender since and I won my first tournament during the holidays so I am pretty stoked with the result. It continues to feature most nights but I have also been getting into Factorio recently - can't help myself with the massive facory builds. Just about to tackle Aquilo.
  • Learning:
I have been going through a Godot learning course through Zenva (it was offered at a discount price through Humble Bundle) - Made a 2D platformer, a 3D platformer, and now working on walking, jumping, interacting with objects in an open world environment. Its a learning curve, thats for sure, but I am looking forward to expanding into an RPG.
  • Other:
I have been building my collection of motocamping equipment - Christmas definitely helped with this and I'm pretty much in a position to head out and test the setup - might head out for a night or two during the holidays. While hiking food is an option I have been looking at other food (like easy rice meals from a supermarket) so we'll see how we go. End goal is an epic trip - Tasmania would be awesome but for now I'll settle for making sure everything works by doing some quick runs to some local camping spots.
